I´ve created an online Stems mixer?

ree

🎧 Many of us have heard of AI tools that can divide your songs into separate tracks.I personally have tried Moises – and it’s really incredible how this can work! 🤯

However, as a music producer/mixer, it never sounds like it should – you who are producers/mixers all know what I mean. 🎛️ We know our mixes, and we’ve all spent countless hours listening to just the drum track 🥁.

🎤 As an artist, I wanted to create something that enables my listeners to hear my "real" mix in realtime – but at the same time stay true to my YouTube project and not give away my tracks so they can fall into the wrong hands 🔒.

In my journey as a BA-educated music producer/mixer/mastering engineer, an educator 👨‍🏫 and a musician 🎶, I’ve been thinking:How can I share my music in a way that lets people interact with it? To inspire, and to do something special – just for you 💡💖.

🎚️ Create an easy online mixer – is it easy?

Well… as it happens – I’m also a web developer 👨‍💻 (even though I graduated from webdev school waaay back in 2010). So I started working on this idea to build a simple online mixer with separate stereo tracks of my songs – allowing you to control the volume of each track individually 🎚️...AND still watch the video at the same time 🎬. Easy enough, huh?

👀 It’s NOT as easy as one might think!!Dear god. I had to make everything sync – play and pause at the same time ⏯️ – and make sure it worked in every browser 🌐. (I still have no idea if it actually does 😅)Also, I’m just a frontend developer – so HTML, CSS, and JavaScript were my only tools 🧰. And wow… things have changed a lot in recent years!

At one point, I wasn’t sure I’d even be able to pull it off. 😬

But then I realized I could ask ChatGPT for help. And omg, I got some serious help from ChatGpt - all cred to chatty!! It´s amazing how these AI tools can help. Although I never use AI to create my music or music videos.

🎚️ Creating the separate tracks in my DAW

When you’re mixing, you’re working with all the multitracks. In my case, I’ve used Pro Tools for many years 💻🎚️.Creating 4 separate tracks might sound simple – but getting them to match perfectly when playing simultaneously is tricky.

I had to keep all effects intact and preserve the original sound 💫. But as any mixer knows, we sometimes build the sound using complex routing – sending audio through various chains to create certain effects 🔄. (That was the easiest way to explain it, haha 😅)

For those of you who mix: think sidechaining – when one sound controls the processing of another. 👂🎛️This means: when you split out stems, some of that delicate processing might get lost... and suddenly it just doesn’t sound right anymore.

🎉 Anyway – I did my best.I hope you like it.And I really, really hope it works! 🤞💻🎶

About Melisha MusicProduction

Melisha, a half-Norwegian, half-Swedish independent music artist, is also a mother and music producer. In the summer of 2021, after the pandemic led to a loss of clients and gigs—leaving her studio empty—she launched the #OneSongAMonth project to continue creating and sharing music. With her Bachelor's degree in Music Production, she writes, produces, mixes, and masters all of her music herself, and also creates all of her music videos. Each song is accompanied by a music video that brings the story of the song to life.

Melisha's aim is to create pop music but with unique tonalities and chords and with topics that is inspired by her life experiences and life philosophy. The hope is to make the music relatable, and that it speaks to anyone who has a deeper perspective in life. Melisha is on a mission to create music that touches the hearts of her listeners.

💡 About #OneSongAMonth Started in 2021 after the pandemic shook up my world, this project is about keeping creativity alive!
