Fade Away

This is a song about relationships that suddenly disappear – fades away, without explaination and the melancholy in feeling that someone just vanished. Maybe you have been ghosted by a love, a friend or a family member. The song is produced in a positive way to say that we will get past that too even though its hurtful. My son and my nephews are also singing in the choir in this song and Natalie 9 is singing in between the lead vocals.

What if we just are

The song explore thoughts about the existential nature of humans. How we put ourselves in boxes, narratives and beliefs which only cements old norms and ideas without us being able to question them. Because the writer of the song is a woman, the starting point is also how the woman is percieved and valued by her appearance and clothes by society and normative values. The title is a question. And the song is a celebration of our ability to question things, even us just being. And especially – let people just be as they want. The eye is very interesting because it can represent truth but also a distorted reality, depending on what kind of logic, which beliefs and prejudices is present in the mind behind it.

The dancer in the video is Amani. The song is written and produced by me, Melisha MusicProduction. Choirs are sung by Zukie Fioxu and Nadja Itäsaari

Princess Diana

I made a composition with the famous interview with princess Diana. It became a kind of a spoken word composition. Her fate has affected many and she became a symbol of the failed structures of the royal establishment. Before I did the task, I watched a number of documentaries about her. More specifically, three pieces. She described herself as a sacrificial lamb. A young virgin with the right birth who would marry off the prince – even if the prince himself did not want it. He was in love with someone else. But she did not discover it until just before the wedding. She herself was in love with the prince and thought the feelings were real. In a famous interview where the engagement was announced, Charles answers the question of whether they were in love with the words ”whatever it means to be in love”. Diana was young and could not really handle what was happening. She became ill with depression but also bulimia. She describes that she could not really get help and support from the royal family in her situation. And especially not by her husband who still kept in touch with his Camilla. The image expresses a woman who dances through life and expresses emotions. Diana was a dancer. She says she could dance for hours to express her feelings. The dress looks like a prom dress and the room is black, which gives the feeling that she is alone and struggling with a dark mind. Since there is not a sharpness in the image, I think I hear a sound image of the piano with elements of distance and depth. Slightly undefined sound. I wanted to work with a few parts in the sound layout to give focus, projection to what I wanted the image to convey. (What I thought the picture conveyed to me.) The process was about looking for sound clips where Diana is talking. In one of the documentaries ”Diana – in her own words” sound clips of recordings from an author who would make her biography were played. I recorded a lot of good sentences from there, but could not implement them because there was music in the background. I tried a lot anyway but it did not sound good on the whole even though I succeeded perfectly okay. Then I started searching for other youtube interviews with her. I found two pieces that I could use and I ended up using sounds from only one. This is because the sound was so different in the two cliffs. Then I did the composition. I had already ”heard” it in my head when I saw the picture. Then I wanted to give the soundscape even more of the feeling of historical time. It was not one now I wanted to portray. I wanted it to feel like a time travel. So I recorded vinyl noise. Vinyl noise is an incredibly beautiful noise in my opinion and has heat and crackling, a bit like a fire. I worked with her sound recordings to create a script for the time travel. I repeated some phrases in different pans and in many parts I extended the time, ie I wanted her to speak more slowly than she did. To give weight to the words but also to create a calm in relation to the piano. Diana usually talks quite fast and stressful. But by making her speak more slowly, I experienced a greater depth and closeness in her words. I also adapted her sentences to suit the music.

The Messenger

Heres my scientific essay about this song (In swedish): Ljud och känsla – en essä om att förmedla och förändra ett ljuds känsla genom audiovisuell gestaltning och komposition

What happens if I modify the messenger sound and create a musical loop with it ? If I modify the sound, can I modify the feeling the sound creates in me ? I did just that. And it sounded like drops of water. Soothing. …….. Lately I´ve been feeling a bit stressed out by the messenger sound. Both work, family and friends use it. Endless notifications anytime day and night. When you turn the notifications off the fear is that you can miss out on important things… Is it stressful because it is just a artificial communication with a high pitched sound attached to it, not rooted in what we as humans are used to during our existence? The messenger sound has changed since the start. Before it was more mellow and not so piercing in its pitch. What about the sound? If I modify it, how does it sound ? How does it feel ? I modified the sound with redrum sampler and made it into notes. Then I played a steel tongue drum along with it and made a composition of it with instruments. It was a search for an inner peace, I guess, thats how this music, the messenger appeared to me. And now the sound only reminds me of this journey to create this music and the feeling is not stressful anymore. Maybe stress (and fear) can teach us something if we find the strength to face it ? The video is created by the material of Cottonbro and the documentary ”Life In Space”. The video is free and I dont want to make money from it. I will be happy if maybe someone can relate to my story and they can perhaps find some peace from listening to the composition.

The End Song

I wrote The End song to tribute the last episode of Game Of Thrones.

Which I have not seen yet as I am writing this.

It contains a prediction which I do not know will come true or not.

This song came to me on Friday and I finished it yesterday, and since I was doing it so fast

You can actually hear my dog bark after the violin solo.

Hope you like it. Klick to get to the youtube video which is not monetized.

Lyrics:

The End Song

You’re tired and the world is dark it’s hard to go to sleep

The candles lighting up the night with stories you can keep

Your cheeks are wet and heart is warm your can not comprehend

The tears are here cause now it’s time my friend

This song is here because it is the end

Hidden in the shell of life the child is still and soft

The flame of life it breathes in the dragon to wake up

She gives her love to creatures no one wants to have as friends

They die together blood is on her hands

This song is here because it is the end

From all the blood the sinner breaths

The sword is warm of flesh

It’s keeping all the secrets

of the future lifes it takes

A hero and a sinner walks the path

they choose to take

Hand in hand they re walking memory lanes

This song is here because it is

the end

Game of thrones tribute – Dragon Mother release

Dragon Mother on Spotify

ENG:
This soundtrack is composed and written as a tribute for the upcoming season 8 of Game of Thrones. It is a tribute (and a hero song) dedicated to one of the main caracters in the series, Daenerys Targaryen, the Female hero in Game of Thrones.
The sound is a merge between pop/edm and also the soundscape is inspired by the cinematic fantasy genre.
And all the fans of the show will understand the meaning of the lyrics.

The author and artist is a true fan of Game of thrones and wanted to make this tribute to the character Daenerys and also from the perspective of all the dragon mothers out there in the world, who are true heroes.

This character is one of the true female heroes in fantasy TV series, who is portraid with a real life like struggle of a girl growing up in a unjust patriarchal world, being sold to marriage by her own brother, raped and deprived of her only child, growing up to overcome all the struggles and becoming a wize and good Queen, working for justice, Equal rights, against slavery, with the help of her special powers, dragons and the people who gained trust in her abillity to lead.

Quote from Daenerys, the mother of dragons.

”I spent my life in foreign lands. So many men have tried to kill me, I don’t remember all their names. I have been sold like a broodmare. I’ve been chained and betrayed, raped and defiled. Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile? Faith. Not in any gods. Not in myths and legends. In myself. In Daenerys Targaryen. The world hadn’t seen a dragon in centuries until my children were born. The Dothraki hadn’t crossed the sea. Any sea. They did for me. I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and I will.”
―Daenerys Targaryen

Music is produced, written and performed by Melisha Linnell, a music producer with a bacholor degree in music production, owner of Powah studio in Brewhouse Gothenburg.

Melisha wanted to make this tribute from her own perspective of being female in a male dominated business.

-”The inspiration one gets when watching TV series with strong female characters and heroes like Daenerys Targaryan is quite amazing for women like me. It gets far beyond just being another story.” – Melisha Linnell

Production, instruments and vocals: Melisha MusicProduction
Recorded in Powah studios in Brewhouse, Gothenburg, Sweden January 2018.

Pressrelease SVE:

”- Melisha Linnell

    NORSKA

Lyrics:
Fire, but you wont get burned
alive, though the flames were all around
Soul, of a Queen inside although,
No one wanted you to grow , No

But No matter how you fall
You get up and grow much more,
With No fear No
And No matter how they try, to tanke away your life
No fear No, your a HERO

Lies, but you wont get fooled around
Though the poison taste like wine
Soul of a warrior you know,
That the fire helps you grow

But No matter how you fall
You get up and grow much more,
With No fear No
And No matter how they try, to tanke away your life
No fear No, your a HERO
